The Problem:

The Problem is the alarming rate of food insecurity in Sierra Leone. This  is associated with low productivity that is largely undermined by the lack of access to cheap modern production technology inclusive quality organic fertilizers, bio-pesticides, extension services, seeds and seedlings of crops on which  small-scale farmers depend for production and livelihood.

Why Important to solve?

It is Important  to solve the problem because without access to reliable and sustainable input sectors that will increase access to genetically pure-to-go seeds, bio-pesticides and soil fertility improvement facilities, investments in yield-enhancing technologies are not likely to bear much fruit. The availability of these facilities is the foundation for quality productivity, leading to crop and food diversification, employment and poverty reduction. Therefore, efforts to improve the performance of the agricultural sector should include local seeds, bio-fertilizers, bio-pesticides production and delivery systems through extension services.
